Summary
This set, crackling with suspense and drama, includes ten of the most prominent examples of British filmmaking. Appointment with Venus: at the outbreak of WWII the British realize they can't prevent the invasion of the Channel Islands. However, someone realizes that a prize cow, Venus, is on the islands and the Nazis mustn't get hold of her. The wind cannot read: Love that was forbidden ... but could not be denied! Operation Amsterdam: during WWII, British commandos visit occupied Holland to keep a fortune in diamonds out of Nazi hands. Theirs is the glory: in 1944, British General Montgomery and his command were way north of the Allied line, and the Germans were holding them in that swampy position. The plan, put into operation on Sunday, September 14, 1944, was to drop two American Airborne divisions and the British First Airborne Division behind the German lines to capture the bridges which would open the way to the German plain. The day will dawn: horse race tipster and journalist Metcalf is picked for the job of foreign correspondent in Norway when Hitler invades Poland. Seven thunders: escaping British prisoners of war hide out in German occupied France. Unpublished story: journalists investigate German fifth columnists as London burns in the blitz. Two thousand women: a group of English women caught in France during World War II and interned in a posh hotel. Secret mission: four British intelligence agents infiltrate the heart of occupied France in this clever World War II cloak-and-dagger thriller. The Flemish farm: wartime commando story based on fact. Allied airman risks return (on the ground) to occupied France for the honor of his regiment.
